Sure, Spilling Ink Review is a quarterly e-journal but we’re also interested in collecting the best-of-the-best submissions (including the winners of our competitions) in an annual print anthology. While the e-journal provides a sense of immediate gratification and an impressive level of world-wide accessibility there’s just some thing about the tactile nature of a book that we simply can’t resist. So we’ll enjoy our PDFs and our e-readers but SIR will never give up on the good, old-fashioned, spine-bound, page-turner: ye olde book.
The anthology will be produced as a perfectly-bound 6×9 paperback, handsome collection of short stories, flash fiction, prose poetry, and non-fiction.
The goal for production? The end of the year.
However, our ‘end of the year’ will be February, 2011. Because we’ve been impatient and couldn’t wait to get the SIR e-journal underway this first ‘go-round’ won’t have the most conventional of schedules. But, hey, we’re flexible.
We’ll publish our first real e-journal Summer2010 (June/July/Aug) followed by Fall2010 (Sept/Oct/Nov), Winter2011 (Dec/Jan/Feb). Our last competition (Creative Non-Fiction) ends in January, 2011. We’ll then collect stand-out items and highlights from our e-journal and all the competition winners (including all shortlisted work) for inclusion in the print anthology.
With due diligence and barring any catastrophic book-binding disasters we’ll have the anthology by Spring, 2011. Exciting!
